Early April on the peninsula is doing its classic spring-that-isn't-spring thing. The days are past 13 hours now and gaining fast.

We crowdsourced a list of egg stands across the peninsula so you don't have to knock on strangers' doors. Twelve farms, from Olalla to Hansville, selling pasture-raised, Easter egger, duck, and organic eggs. Some are honor-system farm stands. One donates proceeds to a DV shelter. Most are five bucks a dozen. The full list is above. A few that stood out:

Fowl Intentions (Poulsbo) sells brown, blue, and green eggs with all proceeds funding Georgia's House DV shelter.

Beignet's Barn (Kingston) is a sanctuary farm where eggs are pay-what-you-can.

The Caselys (Poulsbo) have duck eggs for $8/doz and chicken for $5.

Winney Farm (Bainbridge) has a self-serve farm store open 7am-7pm daily.

The Rundown

The Nguyens Are Up for a James Beard Award

Trinh and Thai Nguyen grew up in Kitsap County, graduated Central Kitsap High School, and watched their parents build Pho T&N in Poulsbo from scratch after immigrating from Vietnam in 1998. Now they're semifinalists for the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest & Pacific. The nomination is under Ramie, their Seattle restaurant, but Ba Sa on Bainbridge and Pho T&N are theirs too. Winners are announced June 15 in Chicago. If you've eaten at Ba Sa, none of this surprises you.

Sweetwater Tavern opened March 17 in the old Restaurant Marche space in Winslow. Co-owned by SF chef Pete Osborne and Callie Tinney, the concept is upscale-casual seafood with a 10-seat oyster bar shucking Hama Hama and Moonlight Oyster Co. oysters. Wood-fired grill for the non-oyster people. Expanded patio. Osborne's line: "Simple food, not tweezer food." We like it already.

Bremerton Is Getting a World Cup Fan Zone

Quincy Square in downtown Bremerton has been named one of nine official FIFA World Cup 2026 fan zones across Washington State. Giant LED screen on the bandstand, food trucks, beer garden, live music between matches, and 4th Street closed to cars. It's a ferry ride from Seattle, which means it might actually be easier to watch the World Cup in Bremerton than in the city hosting the games.

· Easter is this Sunday. Every egg stand on the peninsula is sold out by Thursday. You've been warned.

· Will Grant, first American to win the Pizza World Cup in Rome, spent last week teaching pizza fundamentals at the school he attended through Running Start in 1997. Full circle doesn't quite cover it.

· The Central Kitsap Food Bank is building an online grocery store so working families can order outside regular hours. Goal is 150 additional families. Worth sharing if you know someone who needs it.

Hidden Gem: Dickerson Falls in Early Spring

Early April is the best time to see Dickerson Falls. All the rain we've been complaining about turns this 50-foot waterfall in the Ueland Tree Farm into something genuinely impressive. The hike is 2 miles round trip, barely 200 feet of elevation gain, and doable with kids. Park at the Ueland Tree Farm trailhead off Big Valley Road. The forest floor is covered in sword ferns and the trail follows a creek bed most of the way. Go on a weekday morning and you'll probably have it to yourself. Go on a Saturday and you'll have it to yourself and six other people. By June, the falls slow to a trickle. Right now they're running full.

Ferry Watch

Bremerton-Seattle: Running light through mid-April. The 144-car Chimacum is out for maintenance, so the route is down to the 64-vehicle Salish. That means reduced capacity and longer waits. If you're driving on, get there early or consider walking on. Spring schedule is in effect through June 13.

Kingston-Edmonds: Plan for waits. One-hour waits at both terminals during peak hours are becoming the norm. The seismic retrofit at Kingston terminal continues through July 2026, causing 20-30 minute delays on the 9:40pm Kingston departure Tuesdays through Thursdays. Also, SR 104 construction near Kingston is adding weekday delays through mid-2026.

Hood Canal Bridge: Closing twice daily on weekdays April 13-24 for maintenance. Draw span opens around 10am and 1:30pm, each closure lasting up to an hour. If you're heading to Port Townsend or the Olympic Peninsula on a weekday, build in a buffer.
