Drive to the summit DirectionsFour miles of steep gravel off US-101 to just over 2,800 ft. Forest Road 2730 is gated November 1 to March 31, so this closes in about five weeks. Go to the south viewpoint, 0.4 mile further along the summit road then a tenth of a mile on foot: Quilcene Bay, Dabob Bay, the Toandos Peninsula, Seattle and Rainier. No pass, no fee.

The after-work one DirectionsPin is the summit; the directions link routes to the Gold Creek trailhead, which has a big lot and real restrooms. A couple of hours round trip on foot to the Vista. DISCOVER PASS REQUIRED to park. The whole Kitsap Peninsula with Seattle behind it, Olympics at your back, Rainier on a clear day.

The northwest corner DirectionsThree and a half hours from Poulsbo each way, so this is a whole Saturday. Three quarters of a mile of boardwalk and stairs to platforms over sea stacks and caves, Tatoosh Island offshore. MAKAH RECREATION PASS REQUIRED, $20, good for the calendar year, bought in Neah Bay on the way through. You are on Makah land: stay on the boardwalk.
